EL Reading Programme on Tuesday Mornings

To promote a strong reading culture at AMKSS

Target Group: Upper Secondary
The English Language curriculum at AMKSS seeks to nurture discerning readers and articulate communicators. Through the EL Reading Programme, students engage critically with The Straits Times and ST-IN, as well as guided reading sessions, deepening their appreciation of language while developing metacognitive and inquiry-based reading habits. Lessons are infused with multiliteracy practices and dialogue-based inquiry to promote deeper understanding and enjoyment of the language. The English and Literature Creative Performance Tasks provide authentic opportunities for students to collaborate and express their creativity through activities such as research and presentations on “How to Make AMKSS a Greener and More Sustainable School,” blackout poetry, and character song lists. Complementing these, the Oracy Programme builds students’ fluency, confidence, and expressiveness through platforms such as article sharing, while class debates further strengthen their research and critical thinking skills, enabling them to present their ideas with clarity and conviction.
